   Stupidly Fast Buggy

Now then, here is a crazy idea !!!

01/01/07 - A Great Idea Comes To Mind

It is New Years Day, and I was wondering what to do this year. Then I had a great idea. I have decided to build for myself, a stupidly fast buggy. Over the next few months, you will be able to follow me, as I piece together this mad machine.

I may buy another chassis for this project, or I may use the one I already have, and buy a road legal chassis to put all my GY6 engine and parts on. I have my eye on a nice black one, that I know of for sale. I will get this when I have some spare cash. I have to pay for a few other things first.

Ok, what size engine do I want ? 150cc ? no got that already. 250cc ? um, not big enough. Oh, how about a nice 1000cc engine ? now don't be stupid Michael. You will snap your rear axle on pull away. Ok then, I know how about a 600cc engine ? now that's more like it. Ok, that's setted then, I will look out for an engine like the Honda CBR600.

I will start looking on the internet for one tomorrow. Now I will have a rest, and get over all the party fun of last night. By the way... 'Happy New Year' to you all.

I will keep a running total of what this project has cost me.

Cost So Far: £0.00 (just my time)

14/01/07 - Got The Engine I Want

Today, I got the engine like I wanted for this project. It is a 600cc, 4 Stroke, 16 Valve, DOHC, Honda CB600F Hornet Engine. Wow, that was a mouthfull. I had to sacrafice my Suzuki RGV, so that I could get it. I also sold my Kawazaki JS440 Jetski, so I would have some cash to pay for a few things. Besides that, I needed room for the project, so some things had to go.

Below are a few photos of the engine.

Cost So Far: £0.00 (my Suzuki RGV)

15/01/07 - What To Do First

This evening, I plan to relax indoors, and think about how I am going to mount the engine in a buggy chassis. I will let you know more, when I have worked it out.

Whilst serching the web for some ideas, I came across a video clip of a buggy in holland, that is the same sort of thing that I want to build. I have put the clip for you all to see in the Video Clips section. Have a look, and tell me if i'm crazy to even consider doing this myself.

Cost So Far: £0.00

25/01/07 - Extras Needed For Engine

It is 02:00 in the morning, and can't sleep. So I have made a list of things that I need to get, before I will be able to start the engine. Yes, I know I have to mount the engine in a chassis first.

Below is the list that I have made:

  • Ignition Coils * 2, and the 4 HT Leads
  • CDI Unit
  • Regulator/Rectifier
  • Radiator
  • Radiator Fan
  • Radiator Thermal Switch
  • Water Pipes
  • Battery
  • Starter Relay
  • K&N Style 150 Air Filters * 4
  • Engine Wiring Loom (maybe home made)
  • Down Pipes
  • Exhaust

If I think of anymore, I will add them above later.

Cost So Far: £0.00

27/01/07 - Bidding On eBay

I have found various parts from the list above on eBay, and am at the moment bidding on the following items:

  • Ignition Coils * 2, and the 4 HT Leads (Red)
  • CDI Unit
  • Regulator/Rectifier
  • Starter & Main Relays
  • Wiring Loom

I will let you all know tomorrow, if I win bidding on any of the bits.

Cost So Far: £0.00

28/01/07 - I Won Some Items

I won the bidding on the following items:

  • CDI Unit (cost £8.99)
  • Regulator/Rectifier (cost £18.99)
  • Starter & Main Relays (cost £2.99)
  • Wiring Loom (cost £14.99)

Unfortunataly, I did not win the bidding on the Red Ignitions Coils. I will just have to keep my eye out for another set.

Cost So Far: £55.71 (including postage)

29/01/07 - Bought A Set Of Coils

It's 03:27 in the morning, and I have just done a 'Buy It Now' on eBay, for a Red set of Ignition Coils & HT Leads. The cost of these is £14.99 for the pair, plus £5.00 for the postage. So that's £19.99 in total. Mmm, not a bad price at all.

When I have had some sleep, I will measure the space on the front of my buggy, to see if the Radiator and Fan that I am watching at the moment will fit in a chassis like mine.

Cost So Far: £75.70 (including postage)

30/01/07 - Engine Specs

I was looking around the Internet, to see what the exact version of the engine is. I have concluded that it could well be the RR edition. If it is, then i'm gonna have a big smile on my face.

Below are the specs for the Honda CB600F Hornet RR edition engine:
